Summer is upon us and many local families are planning out of town vacations. It takes careful planning to ensure a good time is had by all during the vacation. When finalizing your plans do not neglect to have a game plan in place for the home front while you are away.

Here are a few tips.

Stop all deliveries to your home. (Newspapers & Mail)

Give a spare key to a relative or trusted friend.

Have household lights on a timer.

Disconnect the garage door opener.

Have your yard kept up by someone of trust.

(During long absences)

Never hide a key anywhere outside.

Take advantage of the Antioch Police Department house check program.

We wish to remind the citizens we serve to participate in our vacation House watch program. We encourage you to stop by the Antioch Police Department located at 433 Orchard St between the hours of 830Am and 430Pm or our communications center located at 882 Main St to register for the program. Feel free to take the form with you and return it to us when you have completed it. The police will conduct daily checks and random patrols of your home during your absence for up to 14 days. 

Please assist us in keeping our wonderful park system clean and beautiful. Place trash in the proper receptacles provided and report any suspicious activity to the Antioch Police Department.

A brief word concerning fireworks. 

Fireworks are illegal to use or possess in the state of Illinois. In addition to being illegal, people at times underestimate the dangers of fireworks.

One out of every three fireworks injuries is to the eyes.

One out of every four fireworks injury to the eye results in some type of permanent blindness.

Illegal fireworks often find their way into the hands of children.

Fireworks are illegal even if the calendar says it is July 4th.

It is best to leave fireworks displays in the hands of the licensed professional.
