SET TEAM

The Antioch Police Department began implementation of our Special Enforcement Team (SET) in December 2008. The concept was conceived after a Village Board Retreat earlier in the year where it was determined that  board members were concerned about “drugs and gangs” in our community. With that premise in mind we decided to allocate some resources in that direction. There was a concern about funding such a team.  Training and equipment were our two major funding obstacles. We worked with our  Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) agent and learned of some low cost training put on by the Department of Justice. It was training on how to conduct high risk warrants. We began sending officers to this excellent training in July of 2009 and now have 9 officers trained which comprises our SET Team. Our MEG agent has also trained the SET Team about how to conduct small scale undercover drug investigations that our SET Team would be able to handle without calling out MEG. The Antioch Police Department then gets the seized proceeds as well! The SET to this point has conducted joint operations with MEG, Zion PD and Round Lake Park PD.

To date this team has been directly responsible for the seizure of: 3,682 grams of Cannabis, 160 grams of Cocaine, 24.4 grams of Crack Cocaine, 28.2 grams of Heroin, 3 cars, and about $5,000 in USC. We have used some of the seized USC to finance the equipment needs for this team.

The Antioch Police Department recognizes the importance and the need for quality information regarding Drugs, Gangs, and Criminal activity. Many citizens have pertinent  information but for a variety of reasons are hesitant to divulge the information to police.
